Universal Robots unveils the UR8 Long, a long-reach, high-precision cobot that combines lightness, flexibility and performance to optimise welding, assembly and industrial handling operations.

Universal Robots has unveiled the UR8 Long, a new collaborative robot designed to tackle the most demanding industrial automation tasks requiring both long reach and high precision. With a reach of 1,750 mm – identical to that of the UR20 – but a slimmer profile and a payload of 8 kg, the UR8 Long combines stability, compactness and versatility.

 

Advanced motion control and simplified integration

The UR8 Long is compatible with the PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X platforms and benefits from Universal Robots' advanced MotionPlus technology. This ensures smooth trajectories, enhanced repeatability and easy integration with linear axes, rotary positioners or rotary tables. Its improved freedrive capabilities allow operators to manually guide the arm with great fluidity, making adjustments intuitive and programming more accessible. Despite its long reach, the UR8 Long is 30% lighter than the UR20, making it easier to mount on gantries, rails or suspended structures. Designed for welding, picking and inspection The new cobot particularly excels at automated welding, offering increased consistency, reduced cycle times and faster commissioning than manual processes. It is also suitable for bin picking, where its long reach and compact tool allow it to efficiently reach deep into bins. Other applications include multi-point inspection, assembly and handling, particularly in confined environments. According to Universal Robots, the UR8 Long achieves cycle times up to 30% faster, improving the overall efficiency of production lines.
