The Conseil National de l'Emballage (CNE), partner of ALLFORPACK EMBALLAGE PARIS, promotes ‘Fair Packaging’ through a collaborative platform involving all stakeholders in the packaging value chain. Founded in 1997, the association produces best practice documents from dedicated working groups. It focuses on key topics such as household packaging reuse, packaging vacuum, and composting. The CNE also publishes methodological guides on eco-design and environmental messaging. At ALLFORPACK, it aims to highlight innovation and showcase young people's commitment to ‘Just Packaging’ through the Emballé 5.0 competition.

Although often disparaged, packaging remains an essential element in the safety of many products. Now more than ever, we need to educate as many people as possible about good practice in order to achieve fairer, more sensible packaging. The Conseil National de l'Emballage (CNE), a partner of ALLFORPACK EMBALLAGE PARIS, is working on this important issue. Meet Bruno Siri, General Delegate of the CNE (Conseil National de l'Emballage), a collaborative platform committed to ‘Fair Packaging’ and partner of ALLFORPACK EMBALLAGE PARIS.

ALLFORPACK EMBALLAGE PARIS: Could you briefly introduce your organisation?

Bruno Siri: The Conseil National de l'Emballage (CNE), an association created in 1997, is a collaborative platform for the various players in the packaging value chain: producers of packaging materials, packaging and equipment manufacturers, FMCG companies, distribution companies, approved companies and operators in the collection and recovery sector, designers, other packaging professionals, consumer and environmental protection associations, etc.The CNE, a recognised moral authority, works for Fair Packaging and its main mission is to develop and disseminate good practice in the design, use and marketing of product packaging.

ALLFORPACK EMBALLAGE PARIS: How does the CNE operate?

Bruno Siri: The CNE operates in the form of working groups (2 to 3 per year) with 4 to 5 meetings per group. This collective intelligence, which generally brings together 15 to 30 people depending on the topics addressed, is the subject of a best practice document for the benefit of all. The topics dealt with are prioritised by our Board of Directors and are based on current events, but above all anticipate changes in society.

ALLFORPACK EMBALLAGE PARIS: What issues is your organisation particularly active on at the moment?

Bruno Siri: There are a number of topics on which we have been particularly active recently, such as the re-use of household packaging (issues, opportunities and prospects), the vacuum in packaging and the link between packaging and composting. We have also published a methodological guide to the eco-design of packaged products and an editorial guide to environmental claims relating to packaging. We have also published five booklets to educate the public about the importance of packaging.

ALLFORPACK EMBALLAGE PARIS : What are you looking forward to at ALLFORPACK EMBALLAGE PARIS?

Bruno Siri: To discover innovations, to see all the intelligence involved in designing packaging, packaging machines and product logistics operations on display. It's a show that really drives home the point: without packaging, there's no product! Our aim is also to show, through our Emballé 5.0 competition, that the younger generation, and especially students, know how to get involved in bringing to life this ‘Just Packaging’ that we hold so dear.
